About Me

Mattie Loyce is an interdisciplinary artist/curator and community advocate originally from and currently based in San Francisco, CA. Critically engaging socio-political content, and encouraging empowerment through decolonial praxis and transformative justice are key to her community work and socially engaged artist practice. Throughout her career she has made a commitment to amplifying the voices and supporting the lives of people with marginalized identities, specifically people and artists of the African Diaspora, Queer people and People of Color.

Mattie has over 10 years experience working in community mental health and direct service  on both the east and west coasts. She began her dual career in Boston, MA, directly out of undergrad working in community mental health while simultaneously founding her own traveling art gallery, Mission Gallery. In 2017 she received her Masters from Goldsmiths, University of London in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship with a focus in Leadership Studies. Following her Masters, during 2018-2020, she became Curator and Artistic Programme Manager at 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning in Brixton, London, UK.

Mattie is currently working as the Community Development Manager, at DISH (Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing), in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. At DISH she leads the Community Development Department, managing resident leadership, harm reduction and creative and holistic program initiatives across 9 permanent supportive housing sites.

With endless energy, Mattie is continually developing new independent curatorial, critical, and creative projects - and loves empowering her community!
